while the wind
“while the wind” is a site responsive installation first installed in the Carriage House space at the historic Candora Marble Building, home office of Tri-Start Arts. Each of the four archways frame a suspended form, which are each inspired by ephemeral moments of beauty captured in the midst of the mundane pace of daily life, and the shift of the seasons. Moments such as a flock of cardinals on a snowy fence, the reflection of the sunrise on skyrises, or the sunset after a passing storm are captured through layers of patchwork, which abstract and pixelate the scenes. The combination of fabrics include screenprinted organza, remnants from garments and quilt blocks, tulle and voile. Their surface resembles other natural forms: waves, striations of rock, locks of hair, contours of webs or nets. Subtle shifts in color are akin to the shifting tints of twilight and reflected light. The windsock forms are oversized, isolated and divorced from their function as a sign of storm or direction. As a group, these pieces are both landscape-like markers and a herd, creating the illusion of moving slowly through the space, measuring the breath of their environment.
