incidentalis
Published at Pele Prints
During the time that I was ruminating on ideas of snarls and storms, calm and complications, I was invited to produce a series of prints at Pele Prints in St. Louis, MO, with Master Printer Amanda Verbeck.
Amanda is an old friend, as well as a splendid printer and thoughtful collaborator. We immediately fell into comfortable rhythms and produced an extraordinary amount of work in a short time.
This work ebbs between subtle sunsets and deep storms, each with a precarious sense that the winds may change, fate may line up under a new constellation. In reference to these celestial shifts, these prints are titled with the Latin "incidentalis", which I found defined as "falling upon, happening to". This mixture of active and passive was the exact thought I had about this work, neither the abrupt drama of "incident", nor the benign "incidental", but contains some sense of each, and both.
