I think about the conflict between the machine (the process, formula, life plan, etc.) and the execution. There is a false notion that a (sewing) machine will automatically sew/make/achieve things in a better, more orderly way. In reality, it is the preparation, and the ability to "rip-out" that makes perfectly orderly pieces possible. I am interested in the discrepancy between "the plan" and the execution. As I worked on these, I thought about how we are defined by our repeated actions, the patterns of our lives. Some of these patterns are not the ones we cultivate, but the patterns we seem to follow, regardless of our intention to amend and change.
